About Power Rankings
The Power Number is the total of all heat scores for each competitor from the most recent WCT events in this location (excluding the elimination rounds). When available 3 years of data is used with the most recent year being counted 100% and the prior two years 67% and 33%, respectively to give a greater weight to more recent results.
This stat not only encompasses the importance of heat scores for each surfer, but reflects their results as the further a surfer advances in the event the more heat scores are added to the total. Power Rankings DO NOT take into account the momentum of the surfers performance in the current year, but aims to reveal the surfers consistency over a three year period at a particular break.
Some new WCT surfers will only have one or two years of historical data and may be under represented. Rookies on tour will not be represented as they do not yet have historical data.
