Your phone is your Buzzer

Your phone is your Buzzer

Your phone is your ‘Buzzer’. You will see the game on your computer and then ‘buzz’ in with your answer on your phone. You’ll need both and can’t just play on your phone.

Here’s some things to know about your phone ‘buzzer’ (it doesn’t actually look like this haha..see below).

How your Phone ‘Buzzer’ works

  • Scan the QR code on screen

    When we start the game you will need to scan the QR code on the screen with your phone. Never scanned a QR code? Android and iPhone

  • Click link

    You will then click the link as shown and go to the next screen.

  • Put in your First Name

    Please use the same name you used to join the game. First name only.

  • Click 'Join Now'

    Once you click the green ‘Join Now’ link your buzzer is ready to go. Read on for how it works.

  • Wait for it...

    You buzzer will be locked while Old Surf Dad is reading the SURF TRIVIA question.

  • I KNOW THE ANSWER!

    Palms are sweaty, moms spaghetti. As soon as Old Surf Dad finishes reading the question, this is your moment. If you know the answer, BUZZ in!

  • Time to Answer

    If you beat everyone else to the buzzer, this is your moment. You have 15 seconds to answer. If you didn’t buzz in first and the person that did answers incorrectly, you can buzz in. Be careful Wrong answers are minus points!

  • Keeping Score

    All players scores will be shown here. We’ll also do a score check between rounds.

Buzzer Pro Tips

  • Charge your phone!

    Sounds obvious but it happens to the best of us when busy. This is your reminder.

  • Be Buzzer Ready

    Don’t let your phone go to sleep during the match! Consider turning off sleep mode.

  • Tap Button

    Your instinct will be smash the button when you know the answer. We find a controlled tap is more reliable.

SURF TRIVA Rules

  • SURF TRIVIA is based on the popular US game show Jeopardy and follows similar rules. The two exceptions are that you don’t need to answer in the form of a question and there is no ‘Final Jeopardy’

  • The questions, in yellow, are related to each of the vertical Categories in white on the top of the board.

  • Under each category are the questions in dollar amounts. The higher the dollar amount the more difficult the question. Be careful though, wrong questions are minus points!

  • In each round there is a ‘Daily Wager’ hidden in the questions. You can bet a maximum of $1,000 in Round 1 and $2,000 in round 2. But don’t get it wrong or your wager will be subtracted from your Total!

  • We draw straws at the start of the game to determine who goes first. Once the game starts, the person with the correct answer chooses the next question. If that person misses a question it goes back to the last person with the correct answer. This carries over between rounds.

  • Two rounds of 30 questions each will be played to determine the winner. The highest point total wins the game.
